The Big Draw
Community participation in activities and events throughout the district as part of the national ‘Big Draw’ celebrations.
THE BIG DRAW – ‘ACTIVE ART’
The Big Draw is an annual national campaign running throughout the whole of October aiming to get the nation drawing! Every October over 1000 venues, including: galleries, museums, science centres, heritage and environmental sites, libraries, archives, community and shopping centres, colleges, schools and art clubs host drawing activities for people of all abilities. One of this years ‘Big Draw’ themes focuses on ‘Drawing on Energy – from Sport to designing sustainable futures’ and as part of Junction Arts involvement with the national campaign we have decided to adopt a ‘Sporting’ theme.
Plans are currently being finalised but will feature a range of innovative (and slightly crazy!) projects and initiatives across the district engaging communities and promoting participation in art and sport. We are currently exploring ideas based around creating large-scale sculptures and installations at different sporting pitches, courts and arenas created using sports equipment, bats, trainers, stumps, balls etc.. Maybe even designs for sporting medals or trophy’s and even incorporating live, human sculptures – the possibilities are endless!
As part of our plans, we would like to involve as many local community sport clubs and associations from across the district as possible, including football teams, tennis clubs, cricket teams, bowls clubs etc.. If you are a member of of a local team or club and would be interested in getting involved in ‘Active Art’, contact the Junction Arts team on 01623 746 222 or via email to info@junction-arts.demon.co.uk
