Drawing the Way

Drawing the way

People have been visiting Creswell Crags for over 50,000 years. Over 7 days in May and June 2010 new visitors left their mark and drew their journeys as part of an arts project by Junction Arts.

The project resulted in fantastic pieces of work displayed throughout the first floor reception area of Creswell Crags Museum and Visitor Centre.

“What a creative idea-not only shows where people have come from, but a beautiful piece of Art, thank-you” Comment from a participant in the project.

Junction Arts Visitors could take part in this creative survey via two processes. Firstly they produced a luggage label with their thumbprints and details that were displayed (see image above). Secondly they drew their journey from home to the to the Crags using schematic maps, charcoals and graphite. This created a temporary exhibition of beautiful drawings.
Over 360 people contributed to this interactive piece of work. This work is a pre cursor to the Limestone Journeys project, which is an exciting new project, which has successfully secured the 1st phase of a Heritage Lottery (HLF) Landscape Partnership with the potential to bring £2.9 million.
